At first I was really pissed off, but now I'm finding it amusing. It kind of makes me feel like the world is sane and I'm the crazy one. So now I cackle in hysteria! Not really but you get the point.
What I would like to talk about is what happens when people see an innovative idea. Annoyingly, no matter how good of an idea it is, they can't seem to handle it. So their first instinct is to say, "it's JUST xyz." Let me tell you, I hate that phrase with fiery passion.
Just because it is similar, or utilizes, an existing technology does not mean that it's not original enough to be profitable. Compare the Mac to Windows. If I were to propose the idea of a Mac to people they would, as usual, laugh and say, "it's JUST a pc, it's already been done."
What Apple has done is similar, but very different at the same time. Sure at their most basic level, it's an operating system that enables developers to work at a higher level. The interface just looks a little different. Considering how much money Apple has made, are you really ready to throw away a good idea, just because it's kind of similar?
I really feel like people have good ideas all the time, but they dismiss them simply because they're not "original" enough. I've got news for you pal, your idea doesn't have to be a revolutionary new thing. Chances are someone else thought the same thing and wished for it.
In fact, I can tell you how often people probably think a like. Every idea I've had since I was a little kid and I've had a lot. Someone has come out with in 1-3 years and has probably made good money. I feel like the chances of someone having the same idea as me is 1 in 150.
I figure if my idea is 1 in a million and I have a couple of them a year, and there's 350 million other people in this country. I'll subtract 50 million for things like young age, comatose, mentally disable etc. The odds are 2 in 300 or 1 in 150 that someone thought of it too.
All I'm saying is, stop shutting an idea down just because it's not original enough for your taste. Not everyone can come up with something you've never thought of in your wildest dreams. As long as it's innovative and solves someones problem, it will sell as hard as you put your passion into it.
Yeah you read right, you can't just shove anything out there. You have to actually put some value into that product. Actually use it and see if it solves your problem well enough.
I don't know how many times I've picked up a product and within a minute I could tell the creator obviously never used it them selves. They only created the product to make a quick buck. It's so sad and disappointing, they had no idea they could've made more if they actually thought the product through. People will tell their friends and their friends will buy it when they see it actually works.
Anyway, I'm tired of people trying to shut down a good idea because it's not completely original. I'm tired of crappy products because someone wanted to make a quick buck. Show some passion, it'd be indecent and rude otherwise.
